Where Are They Now?

Sam RutaglianoCleveland Browns were known as the Kardiac Kids. Each week, the outcome of the game would come down to the last few minutes, and more often than not, the Browns, behind quarterback Brian Sipe, would somehow pull out a victory. The head coach of that era from 1978- 84 was Sam Rutigliano , a Brooklyn native who grew up in the same neighborhood as Joe Paterno and Vince Lombardi. The most memorable season of that era was 1980 when the Browns finished 11-5 in the regular season, but lost to the Oakland Raiders in the first round of the playoffs on a last minute interception. Face to Face caught up with Rutigliano, still living in Cleveland, but now retired from coaching. Today, he is in television broadcasting, and on the speaking circuit where he shares his memories, and his love of Jesus Christ. Rutigliano became a Christian early in his coaching career as the result of a tragic automobile accident he was involved in that took the life of his young daughter. On Face to Face, his words were, “I don’t know how people go through tragedy like that and not know the Lord.”
